How to Get Healing Faith

For years God has been showing me the relationship between healing and faith. In my mind's eye I keep seeing one hand labeled Healing and the other hand labeled Faith. This image is imprinted on my brain, and I think God has given it to me to emphasize the relationship between the two.

Indeed, faith and healing are so closely tied together that it's nearly impossible to discuss one without the other. Almost all healings take place through someone's faith. Sometimes it's the faith of the sick person; sometimes it's the faith of the people doing the praying. But almost invariably, someone somewhere is exercising faith.

There's clearly a shortage

So--where did all the faith go? There's clearly a shortage. The problem, I suggest, is that most of us haven't heard enough healing Scripture in our churches to create faith in our hearts. And the root of that problem, in turn, is that we haven't heard healing consistently preached and taught. In other words, we have no "Word-base" on which our faith can rest.

What do we need to do, then? Study God’s Word on healing, especially in the New Testament--and keep feeding those healing Scriptures into our hearts and minds and spirits. God's will is to heal all His people, but that revelation won't be ours until we're open to it.

Gaining faith is a process

As we steep ourselves in Scripture, let's remember that gaining faith is a process. It doesn't happen in just a day or a week, but over an extended period of time.

On an ongoing basis, we need to look at the Scriptures, to hear them read aloud, to speak them out loud, and to meditate ("chew") on them until we get to the point where we know beyond any doubt that God wants to heal us, and that the healing is already ours because Jesus accomplished it for us on the Cross.

With perfect confidence

Moreover, let's be aware that if we feed ourselves only a little Scripture, then only a little belief will result. But if we feed ourselves plenty of the Word on healing, then plenty of belief will result, and our faith will soar to new heights.

And if we keep feeding ourselves faithfully, the time will surely come when it's easy for us to believe in healing. Once we've arrived there, we'll be able to pray healing prayers with perfect confidence, for ourselves and others.
