MGHM Healing Brief, 1/10

Curing Unbelief

Too many of us have grown up thinking that the Churchís proper concern is with our collective happy-face on Sunday, and that serious problems like disease are best left to "professionals."

How often do we hear it preached that the Messiah has come to carry off our sickness, weakness, distress, sorrows, and pains? I suspect the answer is much the same for you as for me. From early childhood Iíve known that Jesus loves me and my sins are forgiven. But no one ever explained to me when I was growing up that wholeness is my heritage under the New Covenant.
.

The people around you

Probably no one told the people around you, either. So even if youíve begun to take healing by faith seriously, youíre not surprised--are you?--when well-meaning persons smile politely at the idea that the Lord can heal your sinus trouble.

Or when your physician glances at his watch and changes the subject to pills and therapy, after youíve suggested that your depression might have a spiritual cause and a spiritual cure. Or when your best friend at church says you look like death warmed over, and she certainly hopes youíve found the right medication.
.

The essential idea

So how do we deal confidently with ugly symptoms in the midst of a chorus of unbelief? I think you know my answer already. During the three-plus decades of this ministry Iíve witnessed countless gradual healings and more than a few dramatic ones, all brought about by strong doses of the Healing Word of God.

The essential idea is to line up our thoughts with Godís thoughts so His healing power can flow. When we "confess" the written Word--speak it aloud in faith--it connects us with the power of the Living Word. And if we persist, that power will heal us completely in body, mind, and spirit.

Here are the basics:

Submit to the Lord. Obedience is the first step in dealing with unbelief--your own and that of the people around you. Clean out your "prayer channel" by confessing your sins and receiving Godís forgiveness. After that,

Preach the Word to yourself--that is, find Scriptures that speak to your condition and confess them aloud. Donít skimp on the recipe; the more healing Word you know and apply to your problem, the easier it will be for you to get healed. More Word equals more healing! Then,
.

Declare your healing

Declare your healing: "God has already healed me through Jesus Christ. I am already healed and made whole." If you still see symptoms, if the enemy tries to fill you with doubt, if the members of your family are shaking their heads, if your best friend thinks your situation is hopeless--bind the enemy and double up on declaring your healing.

And in due course, when some well-meaning person asks about your sinus trouble, youíll be able to smile politely and say, "Oh, the Lord healed that long ago!"

Don't forget that . . .

God should be our first resort, not our last resort. Start taking time right now to build up the faith you need to receive His healing.

God is ready to heal us in every wayóspiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally.

God heals all types of disease, pain, sorrow, and infirmity. Nothing is too hard for Him.

God wants us to be healed, to be "whole" persons enjoying abundant life.

God expects us to cooperate with Him in getting healedóthrough medicine, diet, exercise, and straight thinking. Everything that promotes healing is a gift from Him.
