safety, healing, well-being, wholeness, prosperity,
everything working, nothing broken—is what God wants for
His children. In fact, it’s exactly what we pray for when
we ask that the Lord’s will may be done on earth as it’s
done in heaven.
Most of us have discovered that when we’re taking a
prayer-stand to receive shalom—that is,
pushing out of our lives anything that steals, kills, or
destroys—the devil will do his best to knock us off
balance with doubts and respectable sins such as gossip and
unforgiveness. So it’s plain that part of
"standing" is to get rid of common prayer-blocks
like strife, unbelief, and demonic interference.
energy and focus
So far so good. But in the frenzy of modern life
it’s getting harder and harder to stand for
healing-by-faith with energy and focus. We’re continually
distracted by concerns that are in themselves innocent—the
kids’ grades, the leak in the roof, Grandma’s
forgetfulness, the busted muffler, the economy, the weather,
the state of the world, etc., etc., etc.
And when these concerns turn into worries or
anxieties or fears, they block prayer
as effectively as a truckload of obvious sins. It really
shouldn’t surprise us that we can’t have faith and have
worry at the same time. They’re strictly incompatible, and
one of them has to go.
cares for you affectionately
What’s the Biblical solution? It’s to cast
all our cares upon God. "Therefore humble
yourselves . . . under the mighty hand of God . . . casting
the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your
worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He
cares for you affectionately and cares about you
watchfully" (1 Peter 5:6-7, Amplified).
The message is repeated again and again throughout
Scripture: "Cast your cares on the Lord and he will
sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken"
(Psalm 55:22, NIV). "Praise be to the Lord, to God our
Savior, who daily bears our burdens" (Psalm 68:19, NIV).
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not
give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be
troubled and do not be afraid" (John 14:27, NIV).
we're sick or not
So when you catch yourself ruining your day with
worry, just hand your worries over to God. It’s a complete
deliverance from the anxiety, fretting, and general turmoil
that infects our hearts and minds. Don't even worry about
your habit of worrying! Whatever is bothering you, ask God
what to do about it. Then do it, give thanks, and forget it.
If there's nothing you can do this minute, just leave the
matter in God’s hands and expect the answer when the time
is right. Your part is to trust Him. His part is to take
care of what you’ve entrusted to Him.
Healing by faith is really
a daily process, dear one, whether we’re sick or not.
Under our Covenant with God, we’re being ransomed, healed,
restored, forgiven all the time—daily, hourly,
minute-by-minute. So the less we allow worry, fear, and
anxiety to interrupt the flow of our relationship with the
Lord, the better off we’ll be.
