Sowing and Reaping Health

Iíve mentioned before that the ancient world understood the creative power of words in a way that few moderns do. Accordingly, Scripture speaks of words as seed. Consider the Parable of the Sower, for example, in all three Synoptic Gospels. There the Word of God produces a thirty-, sixty-, or hundred-fold return, depending on the fertility of the soil.

Godís Word is seed--and so are our words, along with our actions. The Apostle Paul goes so far as to say in Galatians 6:7 (Amplified) that whatever someone sows, "that and that only shall he reap." And two verses later (6:9) Paul makes clear why this is Good News:  ". . . for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint."

A negative confession

Unfortunately the devil understands this principle perfectly, and will do his best to prevent us from sowing and reaping good health, good relationships, a good life. He knows that a negative confession will cut off the flow of Godís power as effectively as a truckload of sins.

Weíve all heard the Voice many times: You donít really think saying Bible verses out loud is going to clear your emphysema, do you? Whatíll you tell the prayer group when youíre still wheezing? Everyone in your family has the same trouble, including your saintly Aunt Hazel. Do you really think youíre special? Has it occurred to you that God might be trying to teach you something? Blah, blah, blah. . . .

Your doctor may be shaking his head

Back in the world, your doctor may be shaking his head pessimistically. Your relatives may be getting the cemetery plot ready. Your best friend may be telling you to relax, accept the bitter truth, and look for the silver lining.

Meanwhile, your own flesh may begin to "waffle": I certainly hope the healing is working. Maybe God will heal me if Iím extra good. After all, God moves in mysterious ways, and you never know what Heíll do in a situation like mine. And with every passing day, the urge to Just Give Up may seem more and more realistic.

Let's not go there!

Donít do it! You have everything to gain, and absolutely nothing to lose, by sticking to the literal promises of Scripture: "Jesus lifted that sickness off me two thousand years ago. By Jesusí wounds Iíve already been healed. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is rightousness, peace, and joy--mine in abundance through Jesusí death on the Cross."

The great tragedy of the modern Church is that so many sincere Christians have listened to the world, the flesh, and the devil, and have dug their graves with their words. Letís not go there! Letís go for the hundred-fold return instead, confident that it will be ours "in due time . . . if we do not . . . relax our courage and faint."

Don't forget that . . .

God should be our first resort, not our last resort. Start taking time right now to build up the faith you need to receive His healing.

God is ready to heal us in every wayóspiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally.

God heals all types of disease, pain, sorrow, and infirmity. Nothing is too hard for Him.

God wants us to be healed, to be "whole" persons enjoying abundant life.

God expects us to cooperate with Him in getting healedóthrough medicine, diet, exercise, and straight thinking. Everything that promotes healing is a gift from Him.
