The Cleansing Blood of Jesus

Last month we spoke of the "prisons" of body, mind, and spirit in which we find ourselves too often--and we defined a "prison" as any bondage that makes life less than God intends it to be. Other Biblical words for the same idea are "affliction," "torment," "weakness," and "infirmity." All cover much the same ground, as in Matthew 4:24 (NKJV):

. . . and they brought to Him [Jesus] all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.

The darkness of this age

Some of these "afflictions" or "torments," of course, are quite respectable: fear, envy, resentment, obsessive grief. Others--the ones we’ll focus on today--are less respectable. They’re commonly categorized as addictions.

And where do addictions come from? Clues are scattered all through the New Testament, and one of the clearest is in Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV):

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Drawing on God's power

The plain truth is that all addictions--to alcohol, sexual sin, cigarettes, bad eating habits, drugs, shoplifting, pornography, gossip, gambling--are the work of our adversary. So let's be bold and identify them for what they really are: demon-driven torments. And let's be equally bold in drawing on God's power to deliver us from them all.

And how do we do that? The same way Jesus did: by speaking His Word with authority--the authority that He has conferred upon us as members of His Body in Matthew 18:18 (NASB):

Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.
You can stand against it

If, like many serious Christians, you find that an addictive behavior is tripping you up, you can stand against it in power right now. Put your hand on your head and take authority over what's inside:

In the Name of Jesus Christ I break all demonic power over my mind. I have the mind of Christ. I no longer crave things that are bad for my mind or my body. The blood of Jesus has freed me from all sinful and destructive thoughts.

If you'll keep on praying that way, you'll soon be free. So stand firm and don't give up! Let the cleansing blood of Jesus bring new life into your mind!

Don't forget that . . .

God should be our first resort, not our last resort. Start taking time right now to build up the faith you need to receive His healing.

God is ready to heal us in every way--spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally.

God heals all types of disease, pain, sorrow, and infirmity. Nothing is too hard for Him.

God wants us to be healed, to be "whole" persons enjoying abundant life.

God expects us to cooperate with Him in getting healed--through medicine, diet, exercise, and straight thinking. Everything that promotes healing is a gift from Him.
