Deep Cleansing

Among the most stubborn ailments that face any minister of healing are obsessive behaviors--some sexual, some not. Getting these addictions healed is often harder than curing a tumor.

Why should this be so? Well, in thirty-plus years of ministry, it's become clear to me that all addictions--alcohol, unwholesome fantasies, cigarettes, food, chocolate, drugs, pornography, mental quirks and obsessions, sexual quirks and obsessions, fear, doubt, gambling, or whatever--are demon-driven torments. And flushing them out is complicated by the fact that so many of them are socially acceptable.

When a Christian wakes up

This month the Lord has asked me to pay special attention to the unfashionable subject of what used to be called "sexual sins." As He reminds me, countless Christians are wandering through life in a smog of perversion, "looking for love in all the wrong places." They're encouraged, of course, by the current popular mindset--which blesses not only those old standbys, fornication and adultery, but a whole range of homoerotic and pornographic obsessions as well.

When a Christian wakes up to the fact that his/her life is increasingly distorted by a destructive thought-pattern or habit, what's the way out?

Cleansing power of the Blood

In my years of praying for inner cleansing, I've discovered that the most reliable approach is a persistent application of the Blood of Jesus. The cleansing power of the Blood is well attested in Scripture. First John 1:7 is the classic text: "The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin and guilt."

Now, let's be clear what we mean by that. As Pastor William Vaswig writes, when he pleads the Blood of Jesus over himself he doesn't visualize red liquid, but rather "the power of the energy given off in the shedding of Jesus' blood." This energy is what we mean when we draw prayerfully on the Blood of the resurrected Christ, flowing into the people who make up His Body on earth, bringing life and health wherever it penetrates.

Here's how any Christian can apply the Blood of Jesus to his/her mind, habits, will, and emotions. Lay your hands on your head and pray something like this:

     Several times a day

"I apply the Blood of Jesus to my mind and body as a cleansing from the Lord. I confess (the obsession/addiction) that has shackled me, and I repent of it, in the Name of Jesus. Spirits causing (this obsession/addiction), you are bound and cast away from me, in Jesus' name and by the authority that is mine according to the Scriptures."

Do it several times a day. Keep on applying the Blood of Jesus for forgiveness and deep cleansing. It may take a while, but the end result will be a renewed you!
