MGHM Healing Brief, 3/11

Deep Cleansing is Part of Healing

It canít be overemphasized that Jesus died and rose to give us wholeness (shalom) as the basis of an abundant life. And as Iíve said many times, wholeness is much more than just a cure or two. It is perfect functionality--nothing missing, nothing broken, everything working smoothly.

What this implies is that Jesus came to deliver us from every work of the devil--not just the obvious illnesses some of us struggle with, and not just our obvious sins. Jesus also wants to deep-cleanse our useless habits, sour emotions, dead theology, negative confessions, and hereditary weaknesses that interrupt the flow of Godís healing power.
.

If we expect the Lord to heal

So letís not make the mistake of praying for healthy bodies while ignoring our unhealthy physical and mental habits. If we expect the Lord to heal our lungs, itís obvious that weíll have to give up smoking. But it may be less obvious that weíll have to get rid of "innocent" gossip as well--along with addictive TV-watching, self-pity, envy, me-firstness, and all the other respectable corruption thatís "normal" in secular society.

Doing away with our shortcomings can be a bleak prospect. On a bad day many of us are looking at a pile of personal garbage so overwhelming that weíre tempted to throw up our hands, forget about healing, and just live (or die) with the mess. And of course the devil would like nothing better.

One problem at a time

But the Good News, dear one, is that we arenít called to deal with the mess in our own strength. Godís answer to the "yuck" of our lives is utterly simple. Itís summed up in 1 Peter 5:6-7 (NKJV): "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, . . . casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."

Letís suppose youíre seeking Godís healing for arthritis--and letís start with the principle that God typically cleanses us one problem at a time. Once youíre securely grounded in the healing Word, the first item of business is to (1) submit to the Holy Spirit. Heíll point out anything in your life that runs counter to the Law of Love, and show you how to get rid of it so Godís healing power can flow.

Suppose the first problem the Spirit highlights is that youíre spoiling your future with negative confessions--"Iím so stupid that I just canít remember anything," and so on. Your response will be (2) to take authority over that word-curse and destroy it: "Lord God, I have spoken words over my life that did not build me up, edify, correct, or profit me. I break the power of those words now, in the name of Jesus.
.

      Listen to the Spirit

Then, (3) listen to the Spirit with your "inner ear" until you know the next item on His list. (4) Take authority over the problem and break its power in the name of Jesus. Continue the process as long as necessary. Donít forget to give thanks, meanwhile, for the strength of God at work in you.

And when the Spirit assures you that the time is right, you can confess with perfect confidence that your arthritis is healed, thanking God for the healing until its manifestation in your body is complete.

Don't forget that . . .

God should be our first resort, not our last resort. Start taking time right now to build up the faith you need to receive His healing.

God is ready to heal us in every wayóspiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally.

God heals all types of disease, pain, sorrow, and infirmity. Nothing is too hard for Him.

God wants us to be healed, to be "whole" persons enjoying abundant life.

God expects us to cooperate with Him in getting healedóthrough medicine, diet, exercise, and straight thinking. Everything that promotes healing is a gift from Him.
