MGHM Healing Brief, 5/13

Free from Emotional Pain

Isaiah’s detailed description of the Messiah’s crucifixion assures us that He has carried away our griefs, weaknesses, distresses, sorrows, and pains (see chapter 53:4-5 in the Amplified Bible). No human defect is left out of this complete "salvation package," summarized again in Matthew 4:23-4 and elsewhere.

It should be clear that our emotional health is as important to the Lord as our physical health. Yet countless Christians resign themselves to fear, insecurity, stress, anxiety, condemnation, guilt, depression, a sense of worthlessness, and a host of other debilitating emotions, because they just don't know the way out.

Our salvation is meant to deliver us

People commonly deal with such torments by shrugging them off as part of our existence on planet Earth. They’re strictly incompatible, though, with life in Christ--a life of righteousness, peace, and joy. Scripture makes clear that our salvation is meant to deliver us from every work of the devil, right down to the smallest residue.

Let’s take a look at one emotional distress among many: a sense of rejection. It hardly needs to be said that people need the love and acceptance of those around them in order to function properly. Babies suffer when they’re not held and cuddled. Husbands and wives suffer when they’re denied each other’s emotional care. School kids suffer when they’re spurned for being too fat or lousy at sports, wearing funny clothes, having funny hairdos.

One source of permanent healing

The emotional starvation resulting from these abuses can produce a permanent sense that one is unwanted and unloved. What’s the answer? I suppose psychiatry can help to some extent. But on the basis of my own experience I’d say there’s only one source of permanent healing: the cleansing power--the Blood of Jesus--that flows from our resurrected Lord.

Draw on this power!--whenever you’re dealing with such torments as loneliness, rejection, betrayed trust, memories of child abuse, or the loss of a loved one. To get rid of a sense of rejection or anything else that threatens your peace, you can pray something like this:

The healing Blood of Jesus

"In the name of Jesus I declare that I am a child of the Living God. My emotions are the property of Christ, off limits to the devil and his agents. I release the healing Blood of Jesus to deliver me from the sense of rejection. Satan, I bind you in the name of Jesus and I declare your activity unlawful. Get out of my life and take your sense of rejection with you. I declare that the power of the Living God is realized in all my emotions. Thank you, Lord Jesus, that this is so."

Dear one, your mental and emotional needs will respond to God’s healing Word just as your physical condition does. And you can speak that Word yourself with authority (no advanced degrees or other credentials necessary), in the complete confidence that God will respond as you ask.
