MGHM Healing Brief, 5/14

Battle Scriptures, 2

Once weíve mastered the "healing basics" (Isaiah 53:4-5, Matthew 8:16-17, 1 Peter 2:24) itís important to feed our faith with more Word. Last month I suggested several Psalm texts well-suited to a battle with sickness, depression, or any other infirmity. The Psalms are, in fact, a treasury of texts that can speak to any human need. And of course the New Testament is another such treasury.

Some sample verses:

Mark 16:17-18 (ESV): "And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; . . . they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover." Bear in mind that thereís no reason you canít lay healing hands on yourself.

Healing is built into the Name of Jesus

John 14:14: "If you ask anything in my name, I will do it." Everything from Matthew to Revelation makes clear that healing is built into the Name of Jesus, so we can ask for it with perfect confidence.

Galatians 3:13: "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law. . . ." Under the New Covenant weíre free of every torment listed in Deuteronomy 28--boils and tumors, madness and blindness, "all the diseases of Egypt," not to mention numerous curses on our livestock, families, and finances.

2 Timothy 1:7: "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control [or Ďa sound mindí in the KJV]." This text is a straight shot at worry, dread, depression, anxiety, confusion, and hopelessness.

The Word of God is living and active

Hebrews 4:12: "For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow. . . ." The healing Word, spoken aloud, will transmit Godís life and power to our bodies, minds, and spirits.

James 5:14-15: "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed."

The devil is already defeated

Revelation 12:11: "And they have conquered him [the devil] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. . . ." The devil is already defeated by what Jesus has done for us on the Cross and by the anointed words we speak.

Again, these seven texts are just to get you going, so donít hesitate to do your own shopping. As Iíve pointed out in Simple Healing, the Holy Spirit can use Scripture with surprising freedom. So when youíre searching the Word, certain texts will "light up" for you, often in unexpected ways. Make a note of these verses, adapt them to your own needs, speak them in faith--and stand your ground until the enemy collapses!
