The Great Lift-Off

In spite of the Word’s plain witness, modern Christians persist in believing that God causes (or “permits”) damage to our health, finances, children, and relationships “to teach us something”—although it’s never quite clear just what is being taught.

As a result, the Body of Christ has not exercised its authority over sin, sickness, and other afflictions. On the contrary, we’ve become fatally passive in dealing with our infirmities.

And that, of course, is precisely what the devil intends when he assures us that God sends suffering because what seems like evil to us is really good in disguise.

The gift of the Messiah

Let’s get rid of this monstrous nonsense! If you and I believe for one second that God is stealing the good in our lives, we won’t resist the devil properly. We’ll just lie down and accept whatever Satan piles on us on any given day.

We need to get John 10:10 (Amplified) burned into our consciousness: “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance. . . .”

And having done that, we need to get busy with “the great lift-off”—the gift of the Messiah as summarized in Isaiah 53:4 (Amplified): “Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains. . . .

Start "the great lift-off"

The word “borne” translates the original Hebrew nasa, “to lift off,” “to carry away.” Think of the National Aeronautical Space Administration to remind you of the word, and then think of Jesus “lifting off” all your sickness, weakness, and distress! And don’t imagine for a moment that He wants you to hang onto that garbage “to teach you something!”

You can start “the great lift-off” simply by identifying the problem-areas in your life. Write them down, if you like. Are you concerned with a weakness in your body? A relationship problem in your family? Depression or despair? A fondness for “respectable” sins like lying, gossiping, coveting, resentment, unforgiveness? An addiction? Troubles on the job? Troubles with your children?

Then, having identified your problems, know for certain that you can bring them to Jesus your Healer and Deliverer, and that He'll lift them off you when you stand in faith that He’ll do so.

       Take your stand

Don’t be bashful. Name your trouble before the Lord, and then take your stand against it “loud and clear”:

“In the name of Jesus Christ, I command this [sickness, weakness, temptation] to be lifted off me right now. Evil spirits behind this [sickness, weakness, temptation], you will lift off me immediately. And you will stay away from me forever, because I am a child of God. Amen and Amen.”
