MGHM Healing Brief, 10/10

Working the Word

Christians often wonder why we can’t just "pop" divine healing the way we’d pop a pill, and then get on with our schedules. After all, miraculous healings do occur, and some of us have actually experienced or witnessed them.

But the sobering fact is that instant cures are emergency provisions, usually given to brand-new Christians or to people with no particular religious conviction.
.

A process of growth

Why so? The answer, I suggest, is that God must find ways to heal us without locking us into spiritual infancy. Like any good parent, He knows that He can turn any one of His children into the biggest brat in the county by giving the child everything he wants on a silver platter, right now, no questions asked. In other words, God is simply unwilling to become an "enabler" to our laziness, sloppiness, and self-centeredness.

So our healing will normally be a process of growth under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, not a spoon-feeding. As we stand against sickness, we'll be learning how to work the Word in faith--how to speak Scripture and Scripture-based truth to our bodies, minds, spirits, finances, and relationships until the healing power of God has accomplished its result. Put simply, the power of God will always flow if we do our part in keeping the pipeline open.
.

Temptations and distractions

Now, as soon as we reach the decision to do that, our enemy will be on the spot with a full catalog of temptations and distractions: Are you sure you're willing to wait indefinitely for something to happen? Don’t you think the problem is too complex for your level of faith? Wasn’t that a touch of discouragement you were feeling a moment ago? Don’t you think the doctor would laugh himself silly at what you’re trying to do? Have you ever actually seen a Word-healing? Blah, blah, blah. . . .

There may be a struggle with laziness on the one hand (not working the Word regularly) or exhaustion on the other (from ritual recitation of the Word, 24/7, with no particular conviction). And of course the point of all these distractions is to get you to give up. The devil understands full well that the Word won’t fail when Christians work it diligently.
.

Take mature authority

But once we’ve dismissed Satan from our thoughts, working the Word will turn out to be calm, uplifting, invigorating, and virtually effortless. I know a woman who has moved cancer out of her life permanently by saying the healing Scriptures just three different times during the day.

So let’s set aside all our time-wasting diversions, our powerless theologies, our doubts and misgivings, and take mature authority over sickness or whatever else is hanging us up. When we do our part and work the Word consistently, we’ll realize the truth of Job 22:28-30: "You shall decide and decree a thing, and it shall be established for you: and the light of God’s favor shall shine upon your ways."

Don't forget that . . .

God should be our first resort, not our last resort. Start taking time right now to build up the faith you need to receive His healing.

God is ready to heal us in every wayspiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally.

God heals all types of disease, pain, sorrow, and infirmity. Nothing is too hard for Him.

God wants us to be healed, to be "whole" persons enjoying abundant life.

God expects us to cooperate with Him in getting healedthrough medicine, diet, exercise, and straight thinking. Everything that promotes healing is a gift from Him.
