Often when we command the evil spirit behind some disease we have to leave, it will go after a few short commands. However, when some demonic force in our lives is a generational curse or when it’s a very serious disease or weakness, we sometimes need to pound on the demonic force with the word of God until it relents and leaves.
I personally have had to do this pounding in situations where a demonic spirit has bound me since childhood or in situations where a demon spirit is generational and comes from my ancestors. Let me give you an example. My mother had nine siblings. Three of those boys grew up to become alcoholics. Three of the girls grew up and married alcoholics. So, out of ten children in my mother’s family of origin, six of them either were alcoholics or married alcoholics. Alcoholism was the dominant sin of these ancestors and that sin got passed down into the generation of my cousins.
When a generational curse is discovered in a family tree, then the Christians in that family can pound on the demons behind the generational curse, cut it off, break its power and tell it to get out!
This is how we pound on a demonic spirit. The scriptural basis for doing this is in Jeremiah 23:29 which says, “Is not My word like fire and like a hammer that breaks in pieces the rock [of most stubborn resistance]?” Here it is! God’s word is likened to a hammer that breaks even the rock of most stubborn resistance. So, if alcoholism runs throughout your generations, you have the power to hammer on that spirit of alcoholism with God’s word and get it to stop. Now, a demonic spirit that has been in your generations for years doesn’t want to leave. It has had control on your life for possibly centuries and it doesn’t want to give up that control. If the sin of incest runs throughout your generations, then pound on that demonic spirit until it relents and leaves. You have the authority to do this.
This is how we could cut off a demonic spirit from our lives. Ephesians 6:17b says, “And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit wields which is the Word of God…” You and I can take a scripture of deliverance and cut the cords off our lives and off the lives of our ancestors.
This is how we can break the power of a demon spirit. Isaiah 58:6 says that when we fast, then we are to break every enslaving yoke in our lives. Fasting and breaking yokes go hand in hand. “Rather is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose [or release the people from] the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free and that you break every enslaving yoke?”
Then we command the demonic spirit to get out of our lives. Matthew 8:16b says, “Jesus drove out the spirits with a word and restored to health all who were sick.” You and I may need to do exactly as Jesus did. We may need to drive out the evil demons with our words and then heal the sick.
