I believe that the Blood of Jesus applied to our soul can radically change us from the inside out. Let’s take a look at why this is so.
Moses writes in Leviticus 17:11 – “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement (at-one-ment) for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life [that it represents].” (Amplified Bible.) Moses is referring here to the blood of goats and sheep and other sacrificial animals. He says that the blood of animals makes atonement for the soul which is our mind, will and emotions. At the time of his writing this, the Blood of Jesus hadn’t been shed yet, so the blood of animals was the people’s only option for release from their sins.
In this verse, “to make atonement for” means “to purge from all impurities.” With that in mind, let’s word the sentence a different way. “For it’s the blood that purges out the impurities from out soul, that is, out of our mind, will and emotions.” If we have evil in any part of our soul, the blood will take care of it.
All these ideas in the Old Testament about the blood of animals is a for-shadowing of what’s to come under the New Covenant. Today, it’s the Blood of Jesus Christ that purges our impurities under the New Covenant. We know that the Blood of Jesus washes away all sin. We know that the Blood of Jesus can wash away even the deepest and darkest of sins. I have often applied the Blood of Jesus to people who were sexually abused as children or as teenagers. The Blood of Jesus has enough power in it to erase and forgive even the most hideous of sins and to cleanse the sinful memories of the victims. The Blood of Jesus is that powerful!
In the Leviticus scripture we’re told that the blood of animals makes ‘at-one-ment’ with God for our soul. Our mind gets scrubbed and turned back to the Lord God. Our will gets purified and turned back to the Father. Our emotions are purified and then they also turn back towards God. Wow! What a promise from God’s word!
Let me give you an example here of how this cleansing with the Blood of Jesus might work today in your life. If you’ve got a strong lust for looking at pornography both online and in magazines, and if you want to get free from that sin, then start applying the Blood of Jesus to your mind, will and emotions. If you keep doing this over a period of time, the Blood of Jesus will cleanse your thoughts, your desires for pornography, and your emotional attachment to the people you are looking at with lust in your heart. If you keep applying the Blood to your soulish mind, the lust you are experiencing will eventually dissolve into nothingness. Your desires will change. You will no longer be driven to look at pornography in the middle of the night. “The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses [removes] us from all sin and guilt [keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations].” I John 1:7b. (Amplified Bible) I look at the verse this way – the Blood of Jesus Christ removes us from all sin and removes the sin from us. It keeps us cleansed from the sin in all of its forms and manifestations.
We can all use the Blood of Jesus to cleanse ourselves internally. The Blood of Jesus has enough power in it to cleanse our mind, will and emotions. It cleanses the entire soul inside us from all sin. That’s good news!
