Time To Take Authority

The Holy Bible And A Dagger

A woman called me this week saying that she has lumps growing on her wrist. She asked me how to pray against them. I suggested that she should take authority over them and command them to dissolve using the words in I John 3:8b. John writes that Jesus came to “undo, loosen, destroy and dissolve the works of the devil.” Amplified translation. I told her to talk directly to those lumps in the Name of Jesus and tell them to dissolve and disappear. She has the authority to speak like this to those growths on her wrist believing that they will obey her words.

Mark 11:23 tells us that any “whosoever” (that’s you and me) can talk directly to “his mountain” and get it to leave. It can be a mountain of pain, a mountain of sickness, a mountain of fear or anxiety, or a mountain of just about anything you can name. We have been given authority over all of our mountains.

You and I need to do something with the spiritual authority that we have been given by Jesus. He has been given all power in heaven and on earth by God, and in Luke 10:19 Jesus says, “Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power that the enemy possesses, and nothing shall in any way harm you.”

In the Greek the word “authority” means “delegated authority.” Jesus has delegated His authority to His disciples and to us in this verse.

Notice here that when we’re taking authority over something, then we’re not harmed in any way. However, when we’re NOT taking authority over something evil in our lives, we do get hurt. If we allow the thing to stay, then that actually harms us in some way.

Now the question is this – how many of us are actually taking authority over the troubling areas in our lives? How many of us are using the God-given authority that we have? Not many. I see Christians everywhere who are not taking their authority and using it to the fullest. Some Christians know a little about authority, but don’t wield it against the devil and his forces.

We need to meditate on scriptures like Luke has written. We can also meditate on this scripture from Matthew 28:18-19 which says, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you and behold, I am with you all the days to the very close and consummation of the age.” We see here that Jesus has all authority on earth and in heaven and He delegates that authority to us believers. He tells us to “go” in that authority.

The question remains, “over what things in our lives do we personally have authority? The short answer is “everything.” My husband and I can exercise authority over everything happening in our own bodies and minds. We have authority over our health, our home, our cars, our dog, our property, our finances, our checking account, and so on. And, if someone else were living here with us, we would also have authority over them as well.

In the past forty-six years of being a Christian, I have taken authority over growths on my body and commanded them to dry up and disappear in the Name of Jesus. I have taken authority over sickness and disease attacking me. I have taken authority over fear attacking my mind and have told it to get out in Jesus’s Name. I have taken authority over certain sins that have tempted me throughout the years. I have commanded them to stop. I have taken authority over some of my toxic emotions such as revenge and anger and commanded them to get out of my life. In every case, the evil things have obeyed me. We do have authority over the devil and all his evil works in our lives.

You have authority over everything the evil one tries to throw against you. All you have to do is believe the scriptures that give you your authority and start talking to your mountains. They will obey you!

Mary
