If we want to get healing by faith in God’s word, then we need to become familiar with the Bible verses in this blog.
This is Isaiah 53:4-5 taken from the Amplified Bible [I added the Hebrew words in brackets]: “Surely, He has borne [Hebrew – nasa] our griefs [sicknesses, weaknesses, and distress] and carried our sorrows and pains… (v5) But He was wounded [Hebrew – chalal] for our transgressions, He was bruised [Hebrew – daka] for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement needful to obtain peace [Hebrew – shalom] for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him, we are healed and made whole.” Amplified Bible.
The Pentateuch and Haftorahs edited by Rabbi J.H. Hertz translates Isaiah 53:5c like this: “…in union with him, we heal us.” In other words, we can bring healing into our lives with God’s word when we are in union with Jesus, the Messiah. Our union with Him means that we are paying attention to his word and using it for the purposes of healing either ourselves or someone else.
The Jewish Study Bible (Sinai Publishing, Tel Aviv, Israel) translates Isaiah 53:5 from the Hebrew in a different way: “He was wounded through our transgressions, bruised through our iniquities; yet the bond [bondage, imprisonment, fetters, shackles, impediment] of our peace [shalom] is upon him, and in his fellowship, we shall heal ourselves.”
We take what He did for us on the Cross and we heal ourselves with it. For example, we could say something like this – “Lord, I see in your word that your suffering on the cross has already bought and paid for my healing. I also see that I am supposed to believe what you did for me on the cross and take those words and heal myself with them. ‘By your stripes, Lord, I am already healed.’ The lashes on your back already healed me 2,000 years ago. I thank you for lifting off from me all my sickness, weakness, distress and for carrying all of my sorrows and pains. I receive my healing right now from you. Amen.”
We can take what He has already done for each of us and heal ourselves by using the scripture verses.
Two major things can stand in the way of our receiving God’s healing.
- A demon could be blocking our receiving healing. – “When evening came, they brought to Him many who were under the power of demons. He cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick.” Matthew 8:16. We can do the same thing that Jesus did here. When a demon exits a person’s mind or body, they get healed.
- Unforgiveness in our hearts can also block our receiving healing. – “And when you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him and let it drop (leave it, let it go) so that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your [own] failings and shortcomings and let them drop.” We need to do the forgiveness work in own lives and encourage others to do it as well. When we choose to forgive others, then our prayers for healing aren’t hindered.
If we take the time to remove the demons from the situation, then healing can easily flow right into us. If we take the time to forgive everybody everything hurtful that they have done to us, then healing can also flow freely into our bodies, minds and spirits.
